Tips To Get Started With Detoxification

November 28th, 2010 -- Posted in Raw Food For Children | Comments Off

Everyone already knows how to cleanse his or her bodies on the inside. All of us take a shower, shave beards, brush our teeth and comb our hair. Everyone without much thought or complaint practices all these. However, our body is not just one sided. Meaning, cleaning the outside does not ensure you to have a clean body. That is why a lot of people nowadays are into the detoxification process. This health process aims to cleanse our body from the inside so that all of the trapped toxins and wastes would be flushed out and they will be left with a clean and well-functioning body. Unfortunately, there are some who are unable to stick to detoxification for a reason or two. A usual excuse is that they find detoxification too daunting, and the thought of having a weird diet is too unbearable for them. For those who are not really determined and does not have the patience, indeed it could be difficult.

This article will try to give suggestions on how you would be able to overcome your fears and negativity about detoxification. Detoxification is not only for those with military discipline, it could be for everyone, if they just follow this simple suggestion:

Always think of the benefits you are after.

This difficulty that they lose their focus on their goals may easily distract detoxification maybe hard for some and people. For you to be able to stick with the detoxification process, you must always bear in your mind the positive effects that this process brings. Focus on the good and the little bad things about it will not distract you.

Start Slowly

In almost anything, if you shock your body with a high impact first attempt, it could be shocks and not respond well, Imagine yourself leading a quite sedentary life and then suddenly you go on a weight-lifting spree, surely your muscles would ache the next day. With detoxification, if you immediately jump into the detoxification process, your body might reject it and make it very difficult for you. Ii this light, it is a must that you take it slow the first time you undergo detoxification.

Instead of doing it all in jus t one day, you can stretch it out to three, or if you are really wary about it, you can stretch it for one whole week. Make sure you dink plenty of water and try to eat as much of the detoxification ingredients that you can. At first you may take other foods as well, but gradually you can limit yourself to just water and the raw soups and juices.

You have to relax

Some of those who undergo detoxification, or thinking of going into it are often filled with thoughts of doom. You have to let goof all the fears and doubts that you have and have confidence in yourself and in the process. Do some physical exercises to prepare your body, and do some mental exercises to relax your mind. Yoga, Tai Chi and meditation are effective ways to achieve this.

Those Nasty Mosquitoes: Organic Ways to Keep them at Bay

What would warm weather and picnics be without mosquitoes? For many outdoorsmen and picnickers, they’re a summertime
standard. Fortunately, there are organic techniques you can use to keep mosquitoes out of your summer fun. There are
a few toxic ways to rid the area or your skin of these critters but nontoxic, organic methods keep you and your children
safe, too.
Some things are obvious. Close your windows on the side of the house that have no breeze. These insects
don’t like breezes so you can leave the other areas of the house open to the fresh air. Organic pest prevention starts
with simple, easy ways to keep them out of your space in the first place.

Outside your home, you’ll start your organic mosquito prevention by removing areas of standing water that don’t need to be
there. Things like bird baths, pet bowls and wading pools should be cleaned out and refreshed at least twice weekly.
Think about the water that collects in the eaves troughs and other outdoor areas.
If you’re having a barbecue, your organic mosquito control can be as simple as putting some sage or rosemary on the coals.
Mosquitoes don’t like those herbs and steer clear of them.

As for actual skin protection, consider a 30% concentration of oil of eucalyptus, which prevents bites for up to two hours.
Another organic skin protector is 2% soybean oil, which works for almost that long. In comparison, Citronella works
poorly, keeping mosquitoes away for only 20 minutes. Another organic and natural substance involves mixing garlic juice and
water in a 1 to 5 ratio, shaking it up and spraying it on your skin. Believe it or not, it can work for up to six hours.
You can hang strips of cloth that have been soaked in this substance and hang the cloths in areas where people will be.

The Neem tree in India provides another organic form of mosquito control. It contains a compound you can buy called Neem
oil that repels mosquitoes effectively and is extremely safe around humans. Marigolds will act as an organic preventative
against mosquitoes and other flying insects don’t like them either. Finally, Avon’s mosquito repellent is very safe and
many people swear by it.

The alternative to organic pest control is the mosquito repellent called DEET. It is a chemical also known as N,
N-diethyl-meta-toluamide. It’s a powerful chemical created by the US military in the 1940s. As DEET is so powerful,
doctors recommend that children not be exposed to more than 10% DEET products. Many products containing the chemical
are 100% DEET. The skin should be washed after you don’t need the DEET any more. Some research has linked this chemical
to toxic encephalopathy—a brain disease.

On a brighter note, an organic way of keeping mosquitoes out of the area is to plant a big tub of Thai lemongrass and
put it nearby. It contains a natural organic oil, citronella, that is both safe and effective in repelling mosquitoes
in a large area.
You don’t have to ruin your outdoor fun with mosquitoes nor do you have to worry about using DEET, which carries some
toxicity. Enjoy the outdoors using organic mosquito control techniques, which work very well and are safe for you, too.
There are also nontoxic, pheromone-based mosquito traps that you can buy for overall protection.

The next best alternative to ice cream

November 18th, 2010 -- Posted in Raw Food For Children | Comments Off

The next best alternative to ice cream? Easy to make homemade sorbet. (fresh fruits)

Probably one of the best desserts you can eat yet is tremendously good for you is Sorbet. It is a frozen dessert made from iced fruit puree and any other ingredient you would like to add for a light dessert. It is sort of a gelato that has no milk in it so is very good for lactose free individuals or milk allergies. Some sorbets contain alcohol that lowers the freezing temperature and makes it slightly softer. It is very dense and flavorful, matching ice cream for quality and taste. The Villa Dolce, makers of Italian gelato, are one of the best producers of sorbet on the web.

Sorbet has a history behind it that says the Roman Emperor, Nero, invented it during the first century AD. The story said Nero had runners along the Appian way, passing buckets of snow to the mountains to his banquet hall, where it was mixed with honey and wine. Other countries also laid claim to the original invention, but the mixture of snow, juice and fruit pulp is delicious. The French served it traditionally between the starter course and the main course, and is served as a non-fat and vegan alternative to ice cream.

Sorbet is made from water, and fruit puree. It is an excellent source of Calcium and Vitamin C, and is naturally fat free and low in calories. They make excellent fruit smoothies and are good for you in health aspects. They would be similar to fruit whips where you put ice, fruit, and some light flavoring in a blender to whip a light and airy, non dairy drink. Very tasty, natural, and healthy.

The Health Benefits of Organic Meat

November 8th, 2010 -- Posted in Raw Food For Children | Comments Off

The Health Benefits of Organic Meat

Organic meat differs from regular meat in the way the animal farmer raised the animal priorto butchering. Organic meats
must be certified through one of several certification organizations, including the Midwest Organic Services Association.
Farmers must follow strict organic guidelines in the production of the meat product.
Meat certified organic are often born on farms and raised with the utmost of respect and animal dignity. Beef cattle are
not raised in pens but are often free to roam the farm with unrestricted access to water, food, sunshine and outdoor air at
all times.
Everything that goes into an organic farm animal must also be organic. The pastures the animals graze in must be certified
organic themselves. Organic forage and grains grown organically must be fed to the animals and organic pest control must
be utilized on these farms. No synthetic or chemical pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers are applied to local fields or
pastures.
Organic animal farms must apply specific conservation practices to preserve the natural surroundings and the soil in the
area. Water is not wasted and recycling is used whenever possible.
No organic meat can be certified organic if the animal has been fed any antibiotics, growth hormones, steroids or animal
byproducts. Animals are fed what they eat in the pastures and organically grown farm products, such as organic hay. Water
is free from contaminants.
In many cases, animals grown on organic animal farms are removed from the program if they ever become sick enough to require
antibiotics. They are removed from the herd as soon as their illness is discovered. While antibiotics are an excellent way
to treat bacterial infections, there is always the risk of developing resistant strains of bacteria and no one knows the
health effects to consumers who eat meat treated with antibiotics. Antibiotics speed the growth of cattle that seem to
grow using less feed but, because of resistances, sick animals often can’t be well treated and often die of their illness.
Growth hormones, eliminated from the production of organic meats, are given to cattle to speed up their growth on less feed.
This is another situation where scientists do not know the effect of this practice on consumers who eat non-organic meats.
Most organic meat comes from animals grown from birth on small farms in which the animal has free range to move around on
the pasture and to eat when it wants to. Such animals generally are healthier than their conventional counterparts and are
treated more humanely. Animals are allowed to mate as they wish, adding to the sustainability of the farming practice.
Much of the organic meat is derived from bull meat, which is some of the leanest meat around. Farmers who raise bulls and
sell them (called seed stock producers) must provide affidavits stating that their bulls were not raised using antibiotics
or growth hormones from the time of their birth. Such affidavits generally go back at least twenty months prior to the time
that the organic farmer purchased the animal.
Organic meats, particularly organic meat, may be somewhat more expensive than conventionally-grown meat. In general,
however, the meat is fresh and the consumer can guarantee that there is nothing unhealthy in the organic meat product.
