What gardener doesn’t want to rid his or her garden of all those nasty summertime pests? Yet to put chemical pesticides on
plants that will ultimately grow produce the family will eat seems a bit wrong. That’s where gardeners have a break as
there are several organic pesticides for use in the garden. These natural pesticides are safe and don’t damage the soil
year after year.
Many organic pesticides come from plant sources, some of which produce pyrethrum, while others produce rotenone, ryania, or
mineral-based pesticides. Mineral pesticides include cryolite, boric acid or diatomaceous earth—all of which are designed
to kill plant-destructive insects in your garden.
Experts say that, while organic pesticides are distinctly safer than synthetic pesticides, users want to be careful when
using them. Gardeners shouldn’t use them with bare hands and they should realize that some organic pesticides can be as
toxic as their non-organic counterparts. Least toxic products will say “Caution” on the label, more toxic products will
say “Warning” and the most toxic products will say “Danger”. These words, however, are not a signal of their potential for
environmental harm.
Some organic pesticides are minimally toxic to humans but are very toxic to animals. Ryania, for example, is highly toxic
to fish. Other organic pesticides kill even the most beneficial insects, such as the combination of pyrethrins and rotenone.
By law, all pesticides, including organic pesticides, must be used precisely according to the instructions on the label.
Read the label before using any organic pesticide.
An important group of “organic” pesticides is the biopesticide group. This unique class of pesticides involves using
biological organisms to control pests. In general this type of organic pesticide acts slower than other organic pesticides
and involves critical application times. Biopesticides reduce, rather than destroy, pest populations and they have a narrow
target range with a specific mode of action. Biopesticides have a limited shelf life as they are live organisms.
There are two general types of organic biopesticides. They include biochemical and microbial-based organic biopesticides.
Biochemical pesticides include insect pheromones, odor-based chemicals that disrupt the insect mating cycle by interfering
with the ability to find a mate. Pheromone-based traps can also be used to trap male insects, disrupting the mating cycle.
Organic microbial biopesticides include those that come from genetically-changed fungi, viruses, protozoans or bacteria.
This type of organic pesticide suppresses the pest population by secreting toxins specific to the insects, causing disease
in the pest population, interfering with the establishment of pests through competition and other modes of action.
One type of organic biopesticide is the bacterium known as Bacillus thuringiensis, a soil-based bacterium that is toxic to
several types of insect larvae but not to other things. This bacterium can be applied to plant foliage or incorporated into
the genetic material of larger crops. It is toxic to the larvae of moths and butterflies. Other varieties are toxic to
mosquitoes and black flies.
Gardening with organic pesticides is generally effective and healthier to the environment and the plants than synthetic
pesticides and make a good alternative to using harmful chemicals on your garden.

You don’t have to give up all the foods you’re used to eating to become more healthy and to start eating raw, organic and live foods. You know the best place to start changing your life and your diet? It’s at the grocery store, of course. Even if you’re at a good weight and pretty healthy, take a tip from dieters. Go shopping with a list and don’t go to the grocery store hungry. Make sure this shopping trip you can resist those Oreos and potato chips.
Clean out your refrigerator and your cabinets. Throw out the half-empty bags of snack foods. Put any microwaveable foods in a dark bag and stash them somewhere in the back of the freezer. Out of sight, out of mind.
Do stock up on dried fruits and nuts for snacking. Transform your kitchen from a processed food haven to a healthy kitchen. Invest in a good juicer. Clean out those crisper drawers to get them ready for an influx of new organic and raw foods.
Load up on fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. If you can’t give up meat and fish, consider getting super fresh tuna that you can just sear and serve with sesame seeds and a small amount of soy sauce. (I’m getting hungry just thinking about this!)
Make eating this way fun. Invest in those big, white square dishes that are good for serving sushi. It’s easier to arrange small portions of different foods that way. And getting new white dishes will be symbolic of this new, purer way of eating. Get some good chopsticks so you can take your time eating. This is really fun!
Go to a bookstore and get a cookbook or a food book so you can learn about eating raw foods. Buy a big vase and a bunch of sunflowers to symbolize letting the sun into your diet.

While not everyone subscribes to the idea of super foods, there is no doubt that the inclusion of these six super foods in reasonable quantities can help to promote a better quality of life. Here are these six wonderful foods and what they can do for you.
1. Raw Chocolate
Many people love chocolate, but not many people are familiar with raw chocolate. Unlike the processed milk chocolate that is found in many candy bars, raw chocolate has all the benefits and few of the drawbacks.
Raw chocolate has a lot of magnesium. This makes it ideal for helping with nervous conditions, as magnesium helps to calm the nervous system. Serotonin is also found in raw chocolate, which is necessary for proper brain function. Much of this is due to the antioxidant content. You get more anti-oxidants in raw chocolate than in green tea or even blueberries.
There is no caffeine in raw chocolate, but there is a stimulant known as Theoromine, which is very helpful with respiratory issues, such as asthma.
2. Magic Goji Berries
Hailing from Tibet, these tasty berries provide plenty of fiber and Vitamin C. With over 21 trace minerals found in the berries, they are ideal sources of nutrition. Magic Goji berries are rich in anti-oxidants and amino acids, making them more effective than such staples as carrots and spinach.
The combination of nutrients in Magic Goji berries is thought to provide a great boost to the immune system, enhancing the ability to deal with bacteria in the body. The nutritional content is also thought to be helpful with such ailments as insomnia, diabetes, high blood pressure, and excess cholesterol. All in all, these berries pack quite a whallop.

While not working with the speed of nuclear medications, maca does help build up the body and provide benefits that are long lasting. 6. Wheatgrass
Rich in chlorophyll, wheatgrass also provides some of the most basic minerals needed in the daily diet. As a significant source of magnesium, iron, calcium, zinc, and potassium, wheatgrass can be a great substitute for dairy products on a raw food diet. www.TheRawfoodfamily.com We get quite some e-mails from scared parents and grandparents, single-mothers and dads asking us for help regarding the path they have chosen. Even in our family someone was threatening us to call child service as we would “harm” our children in a drastic way. And all this not because we drink alcohol, coffee, take drugs and smoke (what is considered normal), but because we chosed to eat healthy and take care of the education of our children. It is a mad world, and I want to send some support to all of you who are as “normal” as we are….!
